The black vulture, which is in danger of extinction, which fell into Burdur Lake, was treated in Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Natural Life Park. The black vulture ringed in Greece will be released back into nature after its treatment.

One of Turkey’s largest zoos, Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Natural Life Park hosts 1400 animals of 127 species. While the Zoo Branch Directorate, affiliated to the Agricultural Services Department, continues its efforts to increase the animal species and numbers, it also cares and treats injured and sick wild animals.

TREATMENT AND CARE CONTINUES

The black vulture, which was exhausted by the citizens after falling into Burdur Lake, was brought to the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Natural Life Park by the Nature Conservation National Parks Burdur Branch for detailed examination and rehabilitation of its health status. It was determined that the black vulture, which was under treatment, was ringed in Greece. Natural Life Park Branch Manager, Dr. Aygül Arsun stated that the black vulture, with a wingspan of approximately 2 meters and a weight of 6 kilograms and 800 grams, is an endangered species.

SUSPECT OF POISONING

Aygül Arsun said, “The black vulture that fell into the lake in Burdur was rescued by the citizens and handed over to the Nature Conservation National Parks teams. On 30 December, he was brought to us for treatment and care checks by the authorities of the institution. From that day until today, care, observation and treatment continues. We started his treatment with the suspicion of poisoning, x-rays were taken, blood was drawn,” he said.

IMPORTANT TYPE FOR THE ECOLOGICAL SYSTEM

Stating that this species is very important for the ecosystem, Arsun said, “Because it prevents the spread of disease-causing pathogens to humans and wildlife by eating carcasses. Necessary analyzes of the black vulture will also be made by Akdeniz University. After its care and treatment, it will be released back into nature.”

ŞAHİN WILL RETURN TO NATURE

Natural Life Park Branch Manager, Dr. Aygül Arsun also said that a falcon who was injured due to hunting, being hit by a vehicle or falling out of the nest was treated. He stated that Şahin does not have an orthopedic disorder and that he will be released back to nature after he rests a little in his cage and regains his strength.
