Canik Municipality provides psychosocial support to children who come to the district after being affected by earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş. Theater performances, painting and play activities and therapy activities are organized for earthquake survivors at the Canik Özdemir Bayraktar Discovery Campus with the participation of expert psychological counselors, clinical psychologists, child development specialists and social workers. Canik Mayor İbrahim Sandıkçı takes care of the earthquake victims separately in the events organized. President İbrahim Sandıkçı said, “It is of great importance that our children get over their traumas in a healthy and fast manner.”

Stating that they aim for the children affected by the earthquake to leave the trauma process behind quickly with psychosocial support, Canik Mayor İbrahim Sandıkçı said, “We saw that our children affected by the earthquake experienced trauma and were psychologically affected. It is very important for our children to overcome their traumas in a healthy and fast manner. We carry out therapy activities and activities at our Canik Özdemir Bayraktar Discovery Campus in order to get them through the trauma process as soon as possible and return to normal life. Under the coordination of our Municipality’s Directorate of Culture and Social Affairs, we organize many activities and social activities such as theater, painting and fun games, accompanied by expert psychologists, in order to help our children overcome their trauma as soon as possible. With psychosocial support, we aim for our children to quickly leave this process, which is affected psychologically,” he said.
Meeting the Needs of Earthquake Victims
Stating that all the needs of the citizens who came to the district from the earthquake area are met, President İbrahim Sandıkçı said, “We have placed approximately 220 families and 1,250 earthquake survivors in their homes in our district. We regularly follow up the needs of our brothers and sisters with our teams. We meet all their needs with the Canik Municipality Support Market that we have established in our district. Our earthquake survivor brothers who come to the Support Market can get all their needs in company with our staff. State and nation, we are bandaging our wounds hand in hand. We will get through these difficult days,” he said.
