It is a feeling of discomfort, restlessness, need to move, numbness, tingling, sometimes not fully defined, felt in the legs during sleep or rest (sitting or lying down).
The feeling of restlessness in the legs occurs during rest periods. It affects both women and men. It can start at any age and increases in severity with age.
Approximately 5% of people suffer from this disease.
Complaints begin when the person is lying down or sitting in a place for a long time, and the symptoms decrease as they move. Troubles increase in the evening hours and intensify at night. The person feels the need to get up and walk. Therefore, the sleep pattern of the patient (and the person sleeping next to him) is disturbed. During the day, the desire to sleep appears. Quality of life decreases.
Although the factor that causes restless legs syndrome cannot be determined exactly, there are studies that it may be caused by the imbalance in the dopamine level in the brain.
Stress also exacerbates the complaints of patients.
Sometimes women experience this discomfort during pregnancy. It is sometimes seen together with peripheral neuropathy, diabetes, iron deficiency or kidney failure, and sometimes in some types of cancer.
Treatment of Restless Legs Syndrome with Acupuncture:
First of all, BIA impedance analysis method (ratio of body components) is applied to the patient who comes to our clinic with the complaint of restless legs syndrome, and the muscle, fat, connective tissue, bone and water ratios in the body are determined. If deemed necessary, tests showing electrolyte levels and vitamin levels in the blood are requested from the patient. In addition to these examinations and tests, traditional Chinese Medicine examination (pulse, tongue and ear diagnosis) is performed. These methods are synthesized and a definitive and cause-oriented diagnosis is reached.
Acupuncture has a role in regulating the level of neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, noradrenaline. As a method, ear and body acupuncture are applied to the patient together. In addition, many methods such as soft laser therapy, acupuncture point massage, magnetic field therapy, lymphatic drainage massage are applied individually or in combination if necessary.
The patient begins to relax in the first session and responds to the treatment. The treatment is completed at the end of an average of 10 sessions.
