What is a Soaking Problem?
Bedwetting or enuresis nocturna with its medical name is used to describe the problem of involuntary urinary incontinence during sleep. In order for this diagnosis to be taken, there must be bedwetting at least 2 times a week for at least 3 months and the child must be at least 5 years old.
Is Bottom Soaking a Common Problem? Will it fix?
In the evaluations of 5-year-old children, it was determined that there was a high rate of about 25% of bedwetting problems. In other words, it is possible to see it in one of every four children aged five years. The tendency to spontaneously improve with age is evident. Up to 15% of children with this problem recover without any intervention each year.
What Causes Sub-Soaking?
Although families tend to associate the bedwetting problem more with psychological reasons, bedwetting does not usually occur due to mental problems. Hereditary factors are the most important cause of bedwetting. For example, if one of the parents has a problem with bedwetting during childhood, the probability of a similar situation in the child may increase up to 50%. Apart from this, one of the important reasons is that the child’s developmentally small bladder capacity is developmentally small. In addition, many different medical disorders may present as a bedwetting problem, although they are much rarer (eg, diabetes, spinal structural disorders, epilepsy, various drugs).
Do Mental Problems Cause Bottom-Soaking?
Bedwetting problem often does not occur after mental illness. In cases that start after a mental problem, there is usually a period when the child does not wet the bed for at least a year. Apart from this, especially in cases that do not show improvement until adolescence, the child may experience social problems due to this disorder. In this case, it can prepare the ground for many mental illnesses, including depression.
Is There a Cure?
Treatments for bedwetting can be examined in three parts:
Behavioral practices: It includes fluid restriction, night waking, record keeping and rewarding practices. The reason why the details of these practices are not written is to protect children from families that have the potential to disturb their children’s comfort with unnecessary interventions.
Alarm devices: These are the devices used to wake the child with an alarm or vibration after wetting the bed. There are many different types in our country. According to research, it is one of the most successful methods.
Drug treatments: There are many different drug treatments that can be used in the problem of bedwetting. Many scientific studies have demonstrated the reliability of drug treatments used in the treatment of bedwetting in children, despite the fact that families often worry and sometimes even contradictory ideas such as “leave them barren, blind”.
What Can Be Done at Home?
Define the problem clearly. In a child younger than 5 years old, there is no need for any intervention due to the problem of bedwetting at night.
Be supportive. Shaming, shouting, ostracizing, punishing will do more harm than good to a problem that has a very high probability of self-recovery. Know that it is not a situation that arises on purpose.
Get expert help. Sometimes unconsciously applied behavioral methods can cause a significant deterioration in the child’s comfort of life. For this reason, consult a specialist and ensure that a special application is planned for your child.
