HIRSHUTISM (INCREASE HIRRITATION):

Definition: The increase in male-style hair growth in women is called hirsutism. Androgens (Male Hormones) are found to be increased in most of the women with increased hair growth. But there are many different reasons that lead to an increase in Androgens. Therefore, in a woman who has increased hair growth as a result of the increase in her androgens, the cause of this should be determined and treatment should be planned accordingly.

Causes of Hirsutism:

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (Most common cause)

Idiopathic Hirsutism

Cushing’s Syndrome

Hyperprolactinemia (980070) )

Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia

Insulin Resistance

Adrenal Gland Tumors

Ovarian Tumors

Smoking

Medications (Cortisone, Some Epilepsy drugs, Chemotherapy drugs, Thyroid hormone, etc.)

Diagnostic Tests: The degree of hair growth should be determined with the Ferriman-Gallwey Scoring system in patients with complaints. Additional diseases and medications used by the patient should be questioned in detail. Examination findings should be examined in detail for the reasons listed above. For differential diagnosis, hormones such as Androgen hormones (Testosterone, DHEA, DHEA-S, Androstenedione), Sex Hormone Binding Globulin, Cortisol, Prolactin, Homa-IR, 17-OH Progesterone should be measured. In cases deemed necessary as a result of the tests, radiological imaging (USG, CT or MRI) of the adrenal glands and ovaries should be performed.

Treatment: There are different treatment methods applied depending on the cause of hair growth. In addition to medical treatment, patients are also recommended cosmetic treatment (Laser Hair Removal etc.) and Vegy diet methods.
