How is near vision impairment (Presbyopia) treated? Consuming carrots does not help!

by clinic

Due to the vision problem that starts after the 40s, which we call middle age, difficulties in reading and near vision arise. Professor from Memorial Lara Medical Center Department of Eye Health and Diseases, about vision problems that start with the problem of not being able to insert the thread into the needle or not being able to see the text on the phone’s screen while sewing, in the simplest way. Dr. Ahmet Maden gave information about near vision impairment.

Due to the near vision problem that starts with the age of forties, reading becomes difficult and people try to see near objects by moving them away from them. It can become a problem to see small text, sewing needles or mobile phone screens. Presbyopia, or near vision impairment, develops with advancing age, and the problem of near vision becomes more pronounced with aging.

Problems with near vision begin after 40 years of age!

With advancing age, the ability to see near decreases gradually. This is called “Presbyopia”. The lens of the eye, which used to have a very high harmonizing ability, loses its flexibility and, accordingly, its harmonious ability with advancing age. By the age of forties, people begin to have difficulty seeing small objects such as small fonts and mobile phone screens that are very close (30-35 cm) and become blind, especially in dim light. While this situation occurs in the early forties in some individuals, it can be seen in the late forties in others.

Foods That Are Good for the Eye Do Not Benefit!

Although presbyopia is an expected physiological change in life, it is perceived as an inevitable and unconcealable sign of advancing age, as an emotional shock and a symptom of aging. Initially, the use of glasses may be refused. Resisting not to use close glasses and trying to see objects away from them is a discontinuous analysis. In addition, nutrition does not have a direct effect on this problem again. Consuming foods such as carrots, which are thought to be beneficial for eye health, does not delay or eliminate this condition.

Treatment Must Progress Against Person’s Condition!

Not using close glasses in order not to accustom the eyes to the glasses; causes eye strain, headaches, and fatigue when reading or doing other nearby tasks. Unknowingly, the person may gradually become reluctant to work that requires reading and other close vision. When a near vision problem occurs, a doctor should be consulted without wasting time, the refraction status should be determined specifically for the individual, and special analyzes should be produced by a specialist.

For Those With Myopia Problems, Both Far and Close Together!

Those with myopia find out that they can see more easily when they take off their current glasses. However, near vision becomes more and more difficult for hypermetropes. Those with myopia or hyperopia disorder already use glasses. In this case, the glasses used can be combined with multifocal or progressive lenses to provide far and near vision. Although these lenses require a cycle of harmony at first and can be difficult to get used to, they are a very common option and a very affordable option that provides clear vision at any range.

These Lenses Help to See Both Far and Near!

There are “multifocal, trifocal” intraocular smart lens options, which are placed in the eye during surgery and provide clear vision both near and far, in individuals with cataracts. After the surgery, the need for glasses is eliminated thanks to these lenses. In addition, even without cataract, in case of refractive errors, just as in the case of cataract, the transparent intraocular lens can be surgically removed in the same form and the appropriate smart intraocular lens is placed. Thus, glasses-free and better quality vision can be obtained at any distance.
