Dermatology Specialist Dr. Serpil Özyılmaz stated that there are many reasons for nail breakage and warned that it sometimes points to important health problems.
Be careful to use gloves
Stating that nail breakage is most common due to vitamin and mineral deficiency, Dr. Serpil Özyılmaz stated that the lack of essential iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium and vitamin A and D causes nail breakage and said, “Healthy nails are pink in color, transparent and have a curved appearance. Depending on the cold weather, especially in the winter months, the hands become dry and cracked faster, and the nails may be more sensitive during this period. The most valuable precaution to be taken here is to use a moisturizer after every hand washing, apply a moisturizer and wear gloves when going out to the cold air, “he said.
Avoid contact with cold water
Saying that liquid soaps cause nail breakage, Dr. Özyılmaz said, “In general, the use of bar soaps and non-liquid soaps is recommended, and the use of chemicals such as wet wipes and cologne is not recommended because they damage the integrity of the skin. Apart from this, in general, frequent hand washing is not recommended as it will damage the skin areas.
If you have an allergic nature…
Try not to come into contact with too much cold water in cold weather in winter, you can also use gloves to prevent direct contact with nails of detergents used in housing cleaning. If you have an allergenic nature, you can choose cotton gloves. Frequent use of nail polish and acetone can also cause damage to the nails.
