Most Common Cardiovascular Occlusion (Coronary Artery Disease)

It is a disease that manifests itself with the deterioration of the nutrition of the heart muscle as a result of stenosis or obstruction in the vessels feeding the heart.

All vascular occlusions occur as a result of the underlying process called ‘Atherosclerosis’. Atherosclerosis can be explained simply as calcification in the vessel. Plaque is formed by the accumulation and oxidation of fats (cholesterol, bad cholesterol) in the blood vessel wall. The plaque grows into the vessel. There is a narrowing of the vein. It prevents normal blood flow. Sometimes this plaque breaks and a clot forms inside the narrowed vessel. This causes a heart attack. Atherosclerosis vascular calcification is the main cause of all cardiovascular diseases.

CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE

There are two coronary arteries, right and left, from the main aortic artery leaving the heart. These are the main veins. It is called the Left and Right Main vein. The stenoses and occlusions that develop in these vessels can cause problems that require urgent intervention.

The main veins are the veins that carry clean blood to the heart tissue, which then branch off and exit as coronaries. They travel above the heart and provide blood flow to the heart muscle (myocardium) below.

The narrowing of the heart vessels is called Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). The heart muscle cannot perform its functions as a result of the decrease or complete blockage of the blood flow and the cessation of the flow. This condition, in which blood flow is reduced and disorders at the cellular level are observed, is called ‘ischemia’. Another name of Coronary Artery Disease can be reported as “Ischemic Heart Disease”. These terms are used for the same disease.

There are a number of risks that start with the complaint of “chest pain” and last until a heart attack in patients.

The most common complaint is chest pain, other than that, chest tightness, tightness and burning can also be seen.

Complete occlusion of the coronary artery can occur and if the blood flow cannot be restored, the heart muscle (myocardium) it feeds dies. The death of the tissue with inability to feed is called infarction. Its medical name thus becomes ”Myocardial Infarction”. This is a heart attack. It is life threatening.
