Istanbul University Molecular Medicine doctor Dr. Hande Karagedik has completed the work of the food supplement “Pinaster Pine” syrup produced from maritime pine cones. In July 2019, with the support of TÜBİTAK, Karagedik started working to make a cough syrup, which he prepared with the help of pine tree to prevent his aunt’s cough when he was little. The woman entrepreneur Karagedik, who is also the founder of the R&D company named Hamata, completed the laboratory stages of the syrup and received the license approval from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Combining herbs and modern medicine, Karagedik used different extraction techniques from the pine plant in his project, and after a difficult laboratory process of more than two years, he found the method with the most effective active ingredient and developed Pinaster Pine syrup and received a product patent.

Hande Karagedik is very happy that the syrup she prepared with the information inherited from her aunt will benefit all people; “The syrup, which does not contain any additives, has been licensed as a food supplement by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. When we look at the active ingredient components found in ingredient analysis, the product can be used in the symptomatic treatment of upper respiratory tract infections. Everyone over the age of 4, including diabetics, can easily drink the product, and we continue to work on advanced forms of syrup.”

Pinester Pine will be available primarily on websites and in certain pharmacies in Istanbul. Underlining that there is already a great interest in the product, Karagedik continues its efforts to sell the syrup in Turkey and all over the world in the near future.

Who is Hande Karagedik?

Emine Hande Karagedik completed her PhD in Molecular Medicine at Istanbul University Experimental Medicine Research Institute. As a result of the scientific studies he has been involved in since 2012, he has 5 articles in journals within the scope of SCI, SSCI, Arts and Humanities, 2 articles in other international refereed journals and 13 international notifications. In addition, Hande Karagedik, who teaches Microbiology part-time at Işık University, still continues to work on the brand she created within the scope of Tübitak 1512 BiGG program.
