The ‘Stem Cell and Tissue Engineering Symposium’, in which stem cell studies and applications that had a great impact in the world, were discussed, was held online on February 27-28. In the symposium organized by Istinye University, experts from Turkey and the world took part as speakers. Tissue Engineering and 3D Bioprinting Workshop was also held within the scope of the symposium.
The ‘Stem Cell and Tissue Engineering Symposium’ organized by İstinye University together with the Stem Cell and Cellular Therapies Association was held online on February 27-28. The importance of mesenchymal stem cells in pre-clinical and clinical studies, neurodegenerative diseases, dentistry and Covid-19 treatment was evaluated in all aspects on the first day of the symposium, which was attended by leading names in the field of stem cells and tissue engineering. In the sessions held on the second day, the use of stem cells in tissue engineering, 3D bioprinting applications, and the use of CRISPR technology in stem cells, which brought a different dimension to gene editing studies by winning the Nobel Prize, were discussed by scientists who are experts in their fields.
Experts from Turkey and the world participated
In the symposium, which contributes to increase the environment of interdisciplinary communication and cooperation, guests from Turkey and the world who are experts in their fields took part as speakers. In the event, where all aspects of scientific developments in the fields of stem cells and tissue engineering were discussed, Tissue Engineering and 3D Bioprinting Workshop was also held, where the participants had basic knowledge of 3D Tissue Engineering and followed the processes of printing applications on bioprinters.
“There are stem cell treatments in the future of medicine”
Istinye University Rector and Symposium President Prof. Dr. Erdal Karaöz stated that scientists in Turkey also pioneered preclinical and clinical studies that made an impression in the international arena and said:
“Stem cell-based cellular therapies are applications to repair and regenerate dead tissue. For this purpose, for the last 15 years, many developed countries of the world have been working intensively on stem cell-based treatments and making serious investments. Stem cell studies and applications, which have made a great impression in the world, are one of the topics that have excited both scientists and patients in recent years. Stem cell treatment methods are considered as one of the most important inventions in the field of medicine in the current century. At the ‘Stem Cell and Tissue Engineering Symposium’ we held on February 27-28, we discussed the studies in the field of stem cell and tissue engineering, which have an important place in medicine. Due to the pandemic conditions, the symposium was held online. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the organization of this important symposium attended by experts who made important contributions to these studies in Turkey and in the world.”
