Two international projects have been started to work on brucella, one of the most common zoonotic diseases in the world, according to the data of the World Health Organization and the World Animal Health Organization, within the Microbiology Department of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Harran University. One of the studies is carried out in cooperation with Harran University and Erciyes University Veterinary Faculties from the USA, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, while the other study is an ICRAD project supported by TUBITAK and includes Harran University Veterinary Faculty and Pendik Veterinary Control Research Institute from Germany, Greece and Turkey. takes.
Within the scope of the projects carried out by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, studies are carried out on the host-pathogen relations, evolutionary development, molecular and phylogenetic analyzes of Brucella agents that cause brucellosis, an infectious disease.
These studies, which are very important for Turkey and our region, will provide important epidemiological data showing the origin of different subspecies of bacteria, where they come from and how they spread. Results will be shared with relevant stakeholders and the public.
In the studies carried out within the scope of Harran University Scientific Research Projects, Faculty Members of Veterinary Faculty Prof. Dr. Sevil ERDENLIĞ GÜRBİLEK, Prof. Dr. Oktay KESKIN, Prof. Dr. Osman Yaşar TEL, Dr. Instructor Member Ahmet Murat SAYTEKİN and Res. See. Ayfer GÜLLÜ is located in YÜCETEPE.
The Other Two Important Steps of the Projects Will Be Technology Transfer and Education
Within the scope of the project, which aims to collect and interpret health information in order to improve the health of living things and reduce diseases, it is aimed to transform the outputs into articles and publish them in national and international journals.
Thanks to the epidemiological data to be obtained, significant contributions will be made to the protection and control of the disease.
Stating that different subspecies of the bacteria belonging to the brucella disease of the past in our country show genetic affinities with each other, Prof. Dr. Sevil ERDENLIĞ GÜRBİLEK; “The number of species within the genus Brucella continues to increase across different host bases. The number of 6 genres in classical books has increased to 12 today. In the studies we have done with our professors in our Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, we extensively research new brucella species from wild life and environmental samples such as frogs, pigs, gazelles, soil, etc. When our projects are finalized, we will share our findings with the scientific world.”
