Laser treatment in patients with herniated disc gives very good results in suitable patients. Laser is a light source and it causes shrinkage and shrinkage in the tissue by giving heat energy at certain intensity ratios. This is the result we want in lumbar hernia.
This treatment method is based on giving laser energy by means of a thin needle cannula from the skin, which we call sterile percutaneous, by entering the related lumbar disc from the side, under the operating room conditions, under the control of the scopy instrument, in suitable patients.
When we look at the procedures in the literature, we come across publications showing that very successful results have been obtained. In one study, the severity of pain, which we call the vas score, decreased from 8 to 2.7 (10 most severe-1 least pain). We found similar results in our cases.
The advantages of laser therapy are that it is a closed method, it has almost no side effects, it is easy to apply, the patient does not need to be hospitalized, and it can be removed on the same day.
Which patients are treated with laser treatment? If the patient has chronic low back pain, does not have a neurologic deficit, if the hernia is small, if there is no canal stenosis, if there is pain in the back rather than the leg, it means that it is suitable for laser.
In which patients laser treatment is not applied; It is not applied if the patient has severe neurological deficit, very large hernia, canal stenosis, ruptured and slipped hernia. These patients are referred to microdiscectomy or open surgery.
