Cinema historian and journalist author Agah Özgüç passed away at the age of 90. The news of Özgüç’s death was announced on the social media account of the Cinema Authors Association (SİYAD).

Master artist Hülya Koçyiğit also published a condolence message for Agah Özgüç. Sharing his shot with Agah Özgüç, Koçyiğit used the following words:

“Today we lost our beloved Agah Özgüç, one of the most precious press workers in the memory of Turkish cinema history, who devoted his life to Turkish cinema. Agah is a journalist who always knew how to stay friends. and the archive he left for Turkish cinema is invaluable. Memories came and went as one of the most precious waves of our sea. I wish his precious wife and all his fans the best of health.”

WHO IS AGAH ÖZGUC?

Born in Istanbul in 1932, Özgüç studied at Yeşilköy Pension Elementary School and Haydarpaşa High School.

In the 1950s, Özgüç wrote poems and essays for many literary magazines such as “Sail”, “Honeycomb”, “Poets Yaprağı”, “Turkish Art” and “Pank”. In 1961, he started professional journalism.

Özgüç worked as an editor in the cinema magazines of the period such as “Artist”, “Cinema”, “Sound” and “Perde”, and in the field of cinema “7 Days”, “Video News”, “Development Cinema”, ” He wrote for magazines such as “White Screen”, “Cumhuriyet Magazine”, “Antrakt”, “Cinema”, “Album” and “Öküz”.

Agah Özgüç, who contributed visual materials from his private archives to many broadcasting organizations, also acted as a consultant in cinema documentaries and directed the 12 issues of “Sinema 65” magazine.

Özgüç, the first cinema writer who was given the “Golden Artemis Award” by Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Fine Arts in 1992 for his contributions to Turkish cinema, received the cinema award from Ankara Art Institute in 1992-1993.

Özgüç was awarded the “Aziz Nesin Labor Award” at the 2nd Ankara International Film Festival in 1999. In 2000, the Work Award was presented by the Cinema Authors Association.
