Facial paralysis treatment with acupuncture

by clinic

Bell’s palsy is a sudden onset, unilateral facial paralysis of unknown cause.
As the cause, it can be suggested that the nerve is damaged due to immune, viral, ischemic reasons or its compression with edema that will occur in the anatomical structures it passes through during its course.
Pain behind the ear, facial weakness that develops within hours, can sometimes be seen before complete paralysis.
The involved side is flattened and expressionless, the patient complains of the intact side being retracted.
Eyes cannot close in severe cases. The patient may complain of facial numbness and heaviness, but there is no demonstrable loss of sensation. Lesions further back on the nerve can affect the sense of taste, salivation and tear secretion and cause hyperacusis.
Healing is determined by the extent of nerve damage; nerve conduction studies and electromyelography are useful. In total paralysis, the results are variable. While complete recovery is expected at a rate of 90% in cases that can respond to electrical stimuli; This rate is 20% in cases that do not respond to electrical stimulation.
If acupuncture treatment is started without delay in facial paralysis, the chance of recovery can be much higher. With acupuncture, the above complaints of the patient arising from facial paralysis are rapidly recovered, and the edema-solving effect prevents the nerve damage from settling.
