Tremor (tremor) is a finding that can be found more or less in every person. However, tremor may need to be investigated and treated when tremor begins to interfere with daily life or is a manifestation of a disease. The most common diseases that cause tremor to disrupt daily life are “Parkinson’s Disease” and “Benign Essential Tremor”.
Tremor in Parkinson’s disease occurs at rest and may stop with movement; In addition to tremor, Parkinson’s disease often has other symptoms such as slow gait and muscle stiffness. Benign essential tremor shows a better clinical course. This type of tremor is absent at rest; occurs when the hand moves and the hand begins to be used. It is usually present in other members of the family and often does not progress to a degree that interferes with daily life. In neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis, findings such as tremor, trigeminal neuralgia spasticity may benefit from surgery. However, these surgeries do not benefit other manifestations of multiple sclerosis and do not alter the progressive course of the disease itself.
Tremor is a condition that can benefit significantly from surgical treatment if it cannot be controlled with drugs. The criterion for surgery is the disruption of functions such as drinking water, eating, doing his job and writing despite the drugs. In this case, surgical treatment methods such as thalamotomy and deep brain neurostimulation lead to a significant improvement in the daily life of the patients.
