Beware of fishing

by clinic

Pointing out that people go to the sea, lake or pools to cool off due to the summer season, the biggest danger during cooling off is jumping from a height, which is known as “fishing jump” among the people.

Fishing in Shallow Waters is equivalent to gambling with your life

The risk of jumping into the sea and in uncertain waters is equivalent to gambling with your life, let’s pay attention to the following warnings:

The sea and its depthless waters are equivalent to gambling Jumping into the waters is a big risk. A mistake made while jumping into the water can result in a fracture of the neck bone and subsequent spinal cord injury. Fishing is very dangerous if the water depth is less than two meters. Fractures in the neck bones may occur due to the head hitting the bottom of the water before the hand. The fracture can injure and often tear the spinal cord (about an inch in diameter) that runs through the spine. The most dangerous place for spinal cord injuries is in the neck region.

The most important functions of the spine in the human body are to help carry body weight, contribute to body movements and protect the spinal cord and nerves passing through the spinal canal. The most active region of the spinal system is the neck region. This region, which carries the weight of the head and supports movement in all directions, also provides protection to the spinal cord.

Neck trauma, which will occur with an incorrect movement, can cause fractures in one or more of the neck vertebrae, slippage of the vertebrae on each other (listesis), or damage to the ligaments that keep the vertebrae together and attach to the skull, leading to spinal cord injury.

It should be noted that after the head hits the bottom of the water suddenly, sudden deaths or complete paralysis that will remain for life may occur. I can tell they suffocated.

Incorrect first aid leads to worse results

People who are known or suspected to have had neck trauma should be brought to a fully equipped health center as soon as possible, by stabilizing the neck area. With the concern of moving quickly, transfer methods that may cause more harm to patients should be avoided, and the patient’s current position should be tried to be protected until a specialist physician can see it.

I can say that the probability of an outsider helping this event that develops in a few seconds is quite low. We should take care of our lives more consciously in order to protect ourselves from neck bone and spinal cord injuries that may occur as a result of jumping, as in traffic accidents. We should avoid diving into waters of unknown depth and base structure.
I would also like to point out that it is a great risk to dive into waters with irregular ground structure such as stones and rocks, where the risk is quite high in turbid lake waters and shores that are subsequently filled.
