Aesthetic Dentistry

The word aesthetic, which we frequently use in dentistry, represents the understanding of pleasantness. What is the difference between what is aesthetic and what is not? A thinker said, “If what you see makes you happy, it is beautiful”. Pleasure is not absolute and is entirely subjective.

Dental aesthetics is connected with visual perception. The color, contour, surface features of the teeth, the proportion, symmetry and stability of each other and the whole face are valuable.

Teeth whitening can be applied in colorations ranging from moderate yellow-brown to light gray, tetracycline discoloration due to drug use, and superficial discoloration due to cigarette, coffee or tea consumption. It is a risky application in patients with tooth sensitivity, micro-cracked or very young teeth, and periapical diseased teeth.

COSMETIC CONTOURING

It is the correction of natural teeth with minor abrasions. Correction of cutting edges, rounding of sharp corners, correction of small fractures and breaks.

DIRECT COMPOSITE BONDING APPLICATION

It is a kind of composite application made by removing the minimum element from the teeth in closing small gaps, correcting crooked or twisted teeth, and in cases of wear and light discoloration. Special composite materials are used for this purpose. However, since discoloration can occur in a long period, it should be changed after an obvious time compared to the patient’s feeding and brushing habits.

It is a porcelain application that is made by removing moderate amount from the teeth in cases of moderate discoloration, closing the gaps in the teeth, correcting the crooked or twisted teeth, and abrasion events.
