Usually many people; – Dentist – Needle (local anesthesia) and its effect does not last for a long time – Vomiting reflex during working and measuring in the mouth – Teeth cutting and cavity opening, vibration felt during caries cleaning, smell and tension caused by it – Pain that may occur during and after treatment and the feeling of pain –
Traumatic bone sounds and pain that may occur in tooth extractions and hard tissue operations – Burning smell in electrosurgery – Implant and long treatment sessions – The fears of adults reflected on children and the problems of children not staying in the dentist’s chair for a long time, not being able to keep their mouth open. This feeling either delays or completely prevents them from going to the dentist when they have a problem. Naturally, the result is that the treatment of problems and diseases can be completed after a long, tedious and tedious process or the loss of tissues. I
Here, inhalation sedation application can eliminate these problems to a great extent or completely.
WHAT IS INHALATION SEDATION TREATMENT?
Inhalation sedation treatment, in simple terms, is the mixing of AZOTPROTOXIDE and OXYGEN gases in appropriate concentrations before the treatment of dentistry and giving them to the patient through nasal breathing. This application does not pose any life-threatening risks to the patient. It is not sufficient to produce general anesthesia unless it is used with hypoxic mixtures. Existing devices are already arranged to prevent the application of protoxic concentrations above 70%. Its use in dental treatments is as a mild sedative and analgesic agent to reduce the fear and excitement of phobic patients. Often other hypnotic agents are used together with local anesthesia. Its analgesic property is very important. One of the most important features of protoxide is defined as the concentration effect.
This means that the PROTOXIDE ACTIVE VERY QUICKLY AND IT IS EXCESSED FROM THE BODY VERY QUICKLY. That is, the effect disappears very soon after this process is completed.
At the beginning of our article, we explained the indications (where it can be applied) of protoxide under another heading. But if we repeat briefly;
dentist phobia
– Excitement, anxiety and fear
– Nausea and vomiting reflex
– Intensive traumatic treatment
– Asthma, mental and physical handicaps, epilepsy
– Cardiac problems
Inhalation sedation can be applied in cases such as some psychological problems. So is there no situation where this wonderful sysyem is contraindicated? Of course there is, but very little. Let’s list them;
– Viral and colds, bronchitis
– Upper respiratory tract obstructions
– Pulmonary diseases
When these diseases disappear, sedation can be applied. During these diseases, we cannot apply it because we cannot transmit the gas to the patient through the upper respiratory tract. More precisely, we do not give this gas because we cannot breathe it through the nose.
– Severe heart diseases
– Emphysema
– Certain periods of pregnancy
– Alcoholics and users of related drugs
– Myosthenia gravis-multiple sclerosis
– Some serious ongoing psychiatric treatments
Finally, let’s end our conversation by saying this. Inhalation sedation method has been applied to millions of people in the world since 1845-50 in dentistry. No injured patients have been reported during this time. For example, Dr Gardner Quincy Colton has recorded 193,000 cases with no adverse outcomes between 1864 and 1897 alone.
