There are many internal and psychiatric reasons underlying the state of extreme fatigue, which is often expressed by the patient as very weak, weak, unable to do anything. In order to be able to say that a patient has extreme fatigue, his daily activity must be reduced by at least 50%. Even the simplest movement and effort is tiring for the patient. In this article, endocrinological diseases that can cause extreme fatigue will be discussed.
-DIABETS MELLITUS: In general, patients with type 1 diabetes may experience extreme fatigue before and during diagnosis. It is less common in type 2 diabetics. It may attract more attention especially in diabetic polyneuropathies.
-HYPERTHYROID: In severe hyperthyroidism, together with extreme fatigue, weakness and muscle aches may occur. Muscle wasting may accompany. It usually improves after treatment.
-HYPOTHYROID: Even with mild hypothyroidism, there may be excessive tiredness and a constant desire to sleep. Thyroid hormone tests should be performed in every patient with fatigue.
-REIDAL GLAND INSUFFICIENCY (ADDISON’S DISEASE): One of the most obvious complaints in chronic adrenal gland failure is extreme fatigue. The disease may be accompanied by electrolyte disturbances and sugar drops. Diagnosis can be made easily by blood cortisol values and hormone stimulation tests.
-RENAL EXCESSIVE EXCESSION OF HORMONES (CUSHING SYNDROME): It is a group of diseases in which cortisol increases excessively in the blood. Muscle wasting and fatigue may occur due to protein catabolism.
-PITOPHYSIS INSUFFICIENCY: In pituitary gland insufficiency, thyroid, adrenal gland and gonads insufficiency can be found at the same time. These patients may experience extreme fatigue. The diagnosis can be made by measurement of hormone values and imaging methods.
