Psychotherapy for children and adolescents

by clinic

Perhaps one of the most curious and needed subjects is psychotherapy for children and adolescents. Studies have proven the effectiveness of psychotherapy in children and adolescents in many psychiatric disorders.

Psychotherapy has some advantages over psychopharmacological (drug therapy) treatment. The most important point is that the patient knows the success of the treatment from himself and is his own therapist. Another situation is that the probability of recurrence of psychiatric disorders after therapy is less than with drug treatments.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most tested and proven therapeutic approach for children and adolescents. The effectiveness of CBT has been proven in many disorders, especially major depressive disorder, specific phobia, social phobia, post-traumatic stress disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

CBT helps children and adolescents develop coping skills to solve their difficulties. Children/adolescents are taught various skills. The therapist works with the child/adolescent to identify the skills that will be most helpful. Children/adolescents also develop these skills through practice/exercise, and as a result, they create a new perspective.

In summary, CBT includes practical applications that help children/adolescents acquire new problem-solving skills in solving problems and see the world from a new perspective
