Nuts such as hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds or pistachios help our health thanks to the rich sources they contain and have a protective effect against many diseases. These foods have a protective effect against Alzheimer’s by increasing cognitive functions; In addition, previous scientific studies have shown that it has a protective effect on heart health by being good for problems related to the heart, veins and blood circulation. There are other important benefits of consuming nuts, according to a recently published large international study. Study; showed that daily consumption of 15 grams of nuts can reduce deaths due to diabetes, respiratory system disorders, cancer and nervous system diseases.

More than 120,000 men and women aged 55-69 years were recruited into the study. The research team started the study in 1986 and asked the participants how often and how much they consumed hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds, peanuts and peanut butter. According to the results of the study, it was determined that those who consumed 10 grams or more of these foods per day had a 23% lower all-cause mortality rate compared to those who did not consume them at all.

When the results of the study are evaluated, it is seen that daily consumption of 15 grams of nuts, ie half a handful, can reduce the risk of death due to many diseases, including cancer, and they are equally effective on men and women. These benefits of nuts are attributed to their richness in omega-3, fiber, vitamin E, antioxidants and unsaturated fatty acids. In peanut butter, it was revealed that this effect observed in nuts was not found. If the research team is in this situation; He says that the salt, vegetable oil and trans fats in peanut butter can cause it. In addition, researchers found that consuming more than 15 grams of these foods daily did not produce more positive effects, as supported by past publications and studies.

As a result, nuts; They are unique foods that deserve to be included in our daily diet with their nutritious and disease-preventing effects. This study adds yet another contribution to this view, revealing that these foods also reduce the risk of death in general. However, the studies carried out; It shows that the logic of “the more amount, the more benefit” is also wrong for these foods. Therefore, as in every food, nuts should be consumed in moderation. And instead of peanut butter, which contains many additives and harmful components such as trans fat; It will be much more beneficial to consume these foods in their most natural form.
