We all know now that autism is not a disease but a set of symptoms.
Difficulty in social adaptation, seeming uninterested in the events around them, difficulty in making eye contact, not being able to point to something or not looking at the pointed place, pretending not to hear when called, inability to express feelings or respond to the feelings of others ……..
I would like to touch on the issue of emotions a little here. Our children with autism may display inappropriate behaviors such as laughing and being happy when they are afraid or hurt. While they may show a fearless attitude in the face of danger, they can sometimes develop meaningless fears towards objects.
Our children with autism also want to preserve the sameness. They are disturbed by even the slightest change in their environment, the different route used to go home, the relocation of an item may be difficult for them.
Our children with autism may not like being held and patted on the head.
If autism is detected early and all these symptoms are regulated in the environment of communication and play, it is a condition that the symptoms will regress and perhaps disappear over time. Unfortunately, it is not a process that can be handled with a single drug, a single method, a single specialist. It is a situation that needs to be addressed by working collaboratively by many experts.
