Anger control is to keep the anger felt in the person within a healthy limit and the behaviors that arise as a result of anger are under the control of the person himself. Contrary to popular belief, anger does not appear out of nowhere. Anger has stages of formation. If the person knows this process well, he can also manage his anger.

Experiences with a stimulus present in the moment of anger are associated with previous negative experiences. The individual may feel inhibited, hurt or threatened during anger. In the moment of anger, “trap thoughts” come into play, which ensnares the person.

The individual thinks that he/she has been treated unfairly, believes that he/she has to prove his/her rightness, feels that his/her values ​​are attacked, and may think that he/she is humiliated.

The individual perceives the current situation as exaggerated, distorted and focuses on the unrealistic side. In this way, the anger of the person is also fed. He cannot control the situation and there is an outburst of anger. In this case, he needs to question the anger in order to be able to control his anger.

If the person pays attention to the meanings he attributes to the events, his expectations about the events, the way he interprets the events, he can find the source of his anger.

When the person with Anger Control Problem feels angry, he should ask himself the following questions;

  • What and who am I angry with now?
  • How much of my anger is related to the current event I am currently experiencing?
  • What do I actually need?

Understanding these questions in the moment of anger allows the individual to catch the feeling that he is in control and to stop his anger without increasing it further.

Angry behavior is a form of habit. There have been situations where the angry behavior has definitely worked for the person, and therefore this behavior continues.
