Jaw Injuries

Injuries to the jaw and face may result in deterioration of bone integrity. In accidents involving the head and neck region, first of all, it should be investigated whether there is a head trauma. For this reason, the patient should be referred to the health institution that is equipped in this regard first.

In case of suspected jaw fracture, respectively;

  • You should contact the nearest maxillofacial surgeon.

  • If there is a suspicion of a jaw fracture, radiological examination should be performed.

  • After the injury and during the treatment, a soft diet should be fed and chewing should not be done.

  • When the treatment is started, the treatment plan of the maxillofacial surgeon should be acted upon and the recommendations should be strictly followed.

Early intervention in the treatment of jaw fractures is the most important factor for treatment success, so treatment should be started without delay. Since the jaw bones have a complex joint system and many muscles are exposed to the effects of forces in different directions, allowing them to heal on their own can be inconvenient and risky. Interventions are generally carried out by connecting the jaws to each other and then fixing the fracture line with osteosynthesis plates.
