What Does Ozone Therapy Do?

Ozone is a molecule made up of three oxygen atoms. It is found in the stratosphere layer in nature and prevents the passage of the sun’s UV rays. It is a colorless but characteristic odor gas at room temperature. Since it is a highly effective disinfectant, it is used to clean drinking water and air in ventilation systems all over the world. Ozone is also used as a therapeutic agent. There are many studies on ozone therapy. Most of the studies are related to the disinfectant feature of ozone therapy. Although studies on the treatment of many systemic diseases have increased in recent years, ozone therapy has many efficacy to be investigated and proven.

What is Medical Ozone?

Medical ozone used in ozone therapy always consists of a mixture of pure ozone and pure oxygen. The concentration of ozone can vary between 1-100 mg/ml. The dose is determined by physicians trained in this field according to the patient’s condition and medical indication.

In Which Diseases Is Ozone Therapy Applied?

The antiviral and antibacterial effect of ozone gas is known. It is widely used in cleaning wounds and in the treatment of bacterial and viral diseases. It is also applied in circulatory disorders due to its circulatory stimulating effect. In low doses, it activates the immune system by activating the person’s own resistance. Ozone; It is used in the treatment of diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension and autoimmune diseases including chronic inflammatory processes. The purpose of ozone therapy; is the body’s functions as they should be. It is considered a complementary therapy. For this reason, the medical treatment used for the current disease of the person, if any, should never be stopped. Ozone therapy may be considered as an adjunct to existing medical therapy.

How Is Ozone Therapy Done?

1. MAJOR AUTOHEMOTHERAPY (BLOOD WASHING METHOD)

In general, 100 ml of blood is taken from the patient. It is the intravenous injection of this ozonated blood to the person after mixing with the ozone gas adjusted at the dose deemed appropriate by the physician for approximately 2-3 minutes.

2. SERUM OZONATION (SF; SERUM PHYSIOLOGICAL)

It is the injection of ozone gas into a certain volume of physiological saline in a dose that the physician deems appropriate for a certain period of time, while giving it to the patient by intravenous (ACTIVE OZONATION) at the same time.

3. MINOR AUTOHEMOTHERAPY (INTRAMUSIC METHOD)

It is the injection of 2-5 ml of blood taken from the person into the muscle by mixing it with the appropriate dose of ozone.

4. SUBCUTAN METHOD

The determined dose and volume of ozone gas is injected under the skin with fine-tipped needles.

5. APPLICATION TO BODY CAVES

It is the administration of ozone gas by spraying to the rectal (breech), vagina and ear canal.

6. INHALATION (INHALATION) METHOD

It is the breathing of OZOL gas obtained from ozone gas passed through olive oil. Normally, if ozone gas is inhaled, it has a burning effect. When ozone gas is inhaled, it has been found to be 10 times more effective in terms of treatment, as there is no burning effect.

Who Cannot Be Applied to Ozone Therapy?

Ozone therapy is definitely not applied to ‘favism’ patients with glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase enzyme deficiency. People with enzyme deficiency cannot fulfill the metabolic pathways that ozone gas creates in the blood. It should not be applied to pregnant and lactating people, people with chronic alcoholism.

Are There Any Side Effects of Ozone Therapy?

Ozone therapy has no known side effects. In the absence of the appropriate dose, treatment cannot be benefited. After 3-5 sessions of ozone therapy, complaints such as fatigue, headache and weakness, which are called ‘healing crisis’, can be seen in the person. These complaints disappear with continued treatment.

How Long Does Ozone Therapy Take?

Monthly follow-ups are recommended after 12-14 sessions of ozone therapy, which takes 30-45 minutes per session. At the beginning of the treatment, the sessions start with 2 per week, and as the session progresses, the session intervals are opened and decreased to once a month. As in medical treatments, everything taken into the body has a half-life. For this reason, the follow-up intervals recommended by the practicing physician should be followed.
