The stray animals, whose operation is completed, are put on earrings, and after being kept under control for a certain period of time, they are released back to the place where they were taken in a healthy way. The number of Nilüfer Municipality Veterinary Affairs Directorate, which carried out approximately 2,500 sterilization operations in 2022, has exceeded 20 thousand since 2003.
Mentioning the importance of population control, Nilüfer Municipality Veterinary Affairs Manager Sanem Çetiner emphasized that animal welfare and public health cannot be talked about where the population is high. Stating that the Nilüfer Municipality has put a lot of effort into this issue since 2003, Çetiner said, “The fact that there are many cats and dogs in one place does not mean that they live comfortably. On the contrary, it shows that there is a great war, disease and traffic accidents on the street. Nilüfer Municipality started this business in 2003 as a pioneer for many municipalities. Before the law enacted in 2004, sterilization operations were carried out in Nilüfer.”
Noting that 10 thousand sterilization procedures were carried out throughout Bursa in 2022, of which approximately 2 thousand 500 were carried out by the Nilüfer Municipality Veterinary Affairs Directorate, Çetiner said, “In Nilüfer, where intensive sterilization has been carried out since 2003, bringing stray animals from outside the district borders and releasing them to the borders of Nilüfer is the most important factor in the increase in the population. important reason.
