carpal tunnel syndrome

by clinic

Especially in jobs where hands are used a lot, the peripheral border that moves the thumb, index and middle finger, which we call the median border passing through the wrist, can be compressed and crushed due to the thickening of the surrounding structures in the tunnel. As a result, it creates symptoms that go with pain and numbness in the patient, which increases especially at night and decreases with shaking the hand up and down. It can wake the patient from night sleep.

In the examination of the patient, increased electric shock sensation and numbness are observed when the wrist is palpated. If the patient with carpal tunnel syndrome, whose load level is determined by the EMG performed by the neurologist, cannot be relieved by medical treatment and physical therapy, he is operated under local anesthesia to relieve the border from the wrist area. The patient can start using his/her hand actively after the stitches are removed in about 10 days after the surgery. In patients who avoid forcing the wrist too much, the probability of recurrence after surgery is considerably reduced.
