Acupuncture ; It is a scientific treatment method that has been applied for human health for three thousand years and has become increasingly widespread as a result of intensive research in the West in recent years.
By applying stimuli such as acupuncture, needle, laser, etc. to the defined acupuncture points on the body, it regulates the limbic system* and establishes the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic parts of the autonomic nervous system, thus ensuring the health of the organism.
Acupuncture has been accepted as a scientific treatment method in our country, whose application area and application rules are determined by the Acupuncture regulation published in the Official Gazette dated 29 May 1991 by the Ministry of Health. As a result of the studies carried out within the framework of the recommendations of the Acupuncture High Commission established within the Ministry of Health to establish Acupuncture practice units in medical faculties and other hospitals, İ.Ü. Acupuncture Research and Application Unit affiliated to Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty Anatomy Department was established.
The World Health Organization published the December 1979 issue of its journal as the special issue of Acupuncture and published a list of diseases that can be treated with Acupuncture, which were determined as a result of many researches. These symptoms and diseases are: Stress, obesity (obesity), extreme weakness, addictions (cigarettes, alcohol), headaches, neck hernia, lumbar hernia, muscle pains, allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma, sinusitis, spastic colitis, chronic constipation, diarrhea, nocturnal urination, facial paralysis, trigeminal neuralgia (facial pain), intercostal neuralgia, shingles, urticaria, hysteria, impotence, frigidity, menstrual irregularity, local hair loss, gastritis, hiccups, essential hypertension, hypotension, elbow, neck, shoulder, arm pains, arthrosis (joint calcifications).
Stress is one of the most fundamental problems of our age and causes many health problems. When we consider the conditions we live in, it can be easily understood that it is not possible to eliminate the structures that cause stress. However, with acupuncture applied once a week, the person can be made more resistant to stress. One of the biggest problems caused by intense stress is frequent headache attacks. There is an intense loss of labor due to headache. With acupuncture, these complaints are largely eliminated and the patient’s quality of life is increased. Thus, loss of workforce is also prevented.
Again, chronic constipation, which is the problem of the majority of women, can be treated with acupuncture. In our country, the lack of adequate education and sexual problems, which were taboo until recently, are among the most common health problems. Sexual behavior is an important function of our limbic system that is under control. The irregularity that will occur in the limbic system with continuous negative stimuli causes these problems to occur. Acupuncture, whose treatment logic is based on the regulation of the limbic system, also plays an important role in eliminating sexual problems.
Obesity is one of the most common problems in which acupuncture is used. Acupuncture, which is sometimes offered as a miracle method for losing weight, and sometimes if I follow these lists, I will lose weight anyway. What is the need for acupuncture? is approached. Both approaches contain significant errors. On the one hand, Acupuncture is not a miracle. On the other hand, the contribution of Acupuncture is so important that it cannot be ignored at the initial stage where behavioral change should be established for the patient who has to grapple with obesity. Acupuncture, first of all, will make your digestive system work more regularly, for example, if you have constipation problems, it will eliminate it, if you have heartburn, burning or indigestion, it will eliminate them. Acupuncture will relieve the stress that is still present in your life and will occur during such a serious behavioral change, and will make you feel calmer and more relaxed than ever before. This will allow you to reconsider and change some of your behaviors. Acupuncture will relieve the expected feeling of hunger, stomach scraping and fatigue complaints, as the amount of food you take naturally will decrease in this process. Acupuncture will accelerate the metabolism, which is slowed down as a result of strict diets, weight gain or loss, or for any other reason, which is often outside the control of the physician. While acupuncture eliminates these problems, the patient will do; Going to Acupuncture treatment once a week regularly and following the recommendations of your doctor while losing weight in a healthy way will be nothing but adopting the right habits that will last a lifetime by permanently changing the wrong behaviors related to nutrition.
In the treatment of smoking cessation with acupuncture, the aim is to eliminate the withdrawal syndrome that occurs at the beginning of the period when the patient does not smoke. A person who quits smoking may attack food, have headaches, not be able to concentrate on his work, be overly stressed and overreact to the smallest warnings or similar situations may arise. It is up to the patient not to lie down and take a cigarette, not to try to test the effect of acupuncture, and to accept the help of Acupuncture. Because the real effect of Acupuncture will come out when you don’t smoke. The patient will feel more peaceful, he will not attack the food, the feeling of emptiness will not be disturbing. The risk of starting smoking again after acupuncture treatment is equal to the risk of starting smoking for a person who has never smoked.
It is a treatment method that has no defined side effects when applied by people who have received acupuncture training. For this reason, it is clear that acupuncture will raise the standards in our country and will create the healthiest self-control if the patients learn whether the acupuncturist they apply has a document showing that the acupuncture training has been approved by the Ministry of Health. As a result, acupuncture is not an alternative treatment method to medicine. Like other branches of science, it is a scientific treatment method that is a candidate to be a component of medicine.
LIMBIC SYSTEM: The body’s reactions (adjustment of our heart rate, movement of our intestines, state of our secretions, enlargement and contraction of our vessels) to all psychic stimuli (such as bad words, good words, admiration, danger, etc.) that cover a large cortical area in our brain and come from outside. etc.), the system that creates, controls
