Anger is not the only emotion we feel…

by clinic

Expressing emotions means defining and expressing what you are feeling. Regardless of the emotion you feel, we can say that it is the ability to express both verbally and non-verbally. Unfortunately, in our society, we rarely come across people who can express their feelings. Because our culture has taught us to build a wall between ourselves and ourselves with sentences like “Men don’t cry, women don’t talk much”. Well, don’t express your feelings
How happy are men and women who are denied the opportunity? How worried? How is our society affected by this situation? I can say that Turkey ranked first in Europe in anxiety and depression. I think that especially men are more affected by this situation. Because men were never allowed to express their feelings. He never saw the expression of an emotion such as sadness in his father, who was a child role model. He tried to learn about his father’s way of expressing emotion. The only emotion he could see was anger. Contrary to popular belief, not expressing feelings unfortunately does not mean not experiencing them. In fact, it often means experiencing and suppressing or masking those emotions. When emotions are not expressed, it can lead to anxiety and anger management problems. How about I give you a few tips to alleviate this feeling of anger inside you?

Here are a few tips:

The first step in expressing emotion is to start recognizing emotions. For example, you can watch from your body when a negative situation occurs. You may feel a contraction in your stomach when you are anxious, a warmth on your face when you are angry, and a knot in your throat when you are sad.

When you experience anger, ask yourself! What other feelings might I have? Can I be sad or afraid?

Try to name the emotions you feel. What emotions am I feeling right now? A notebook where you can write them down would also be helpful.

Remember that identifying and expressing emotions is a learnable skill. Just like riding a bike. What you need is constant practice.

You can open your sensitive aspects to people you trust and feel close to. Take a risk and share your feelings with them. Connecting with your relatives, especially with your partner, by expressing your feelings can relax you.
