Varicose veins are enlargement of the leg veins. There are valves in these veins in order to carry the dirty blood in the veins of the legs to the lungs against gravity and to be cleaned. These valves have a very important role in reaching the blood from the leg veins to the lungs. But when varicose develops
the valves in the veins lose their function and the blood starts to pool in our legs. Varicose disease is an important public health problem. Its incidence in our society varies between 20% and 40%. There are many reasons for varicose veins;
– genetic factors
– Gender (more common in women)
– Advanced age
– overweight
– Sedentary life
– pregnancy
– Traumas
– Prolonged standing work

There are 3 types of varicose veins;
– Large varicose veins
– Medium-sized varicose veins
– Capillary varices
All 3 types of varicose veins can be treated without surgery. If medium and large varicose veins are not treated, they can cause a clot in the pulmonary veins, which is life-threatening and medically called ‘Pulmonary embolism’. Capillary varicose veins are varicose veins that cause cosmetic problems.
Varicose veins treatment;
– Surgery: It is the classical method that has been used for many years. However, it is not preferred much nowadays.
– Laser therapy
– Raniofrequency method
– Pasting method
– Foam therapy and sclerotherapy
Among the current varicose treatments, the most frequently used method is foam treatment. In addition, sclerotherapy is one of the most frequently used treatment methods.
In addition to all these treatment methods, varicose stockings and the patient’s ideal weight are also important auxiliary methods in the treatment.
