Chemical Peeling

Wrinkles, scars, spots and freckles on the face, neck, chest, hands and arms can have a better appearance thanks to chemical peeling. Chemical peeling, which is made by applying various chemical solutions to the skin, is a very effective method for removing small pits and scars on the skin.

What is Chemical Peel?

It is the application of some chemical solutions to revitalize the skin, rejuvenate it and improve its appearance. In this treatment, a chemical acid is applied to the skin, which causes the superficial layers to separate and peel off. Although there are many chemical peeling agents, the most commonly used ones are glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), triclocetic acid (TCA), salicylic acid, jesner solution and their combinations.

What can be treated with chemical peeling?

Wrinkles, sun and age-related spots, freckles, crusted redness with cancer potential or dark spots on the face, hormonal or pregnancy spots called melasma can be corrected or even improved by peeling. It helps to heal active acne and improve acne scars. After the peeling of the skin, new skin formation is triggered. The texture and color of the new skin is smoother and more balanced.

What cannot be cured?

Loosening and sagging in the skin cannot be corrected. Chemical peeling is not a substitute for facelift and eyebrow lifting. It is also not effective in removing droopy eyelids. It can help to some extent in deep pits. It is very effective in small pits and scars.

How is it applied?

It can be applied to the face, neck, chest, hands and arms under hospital conditions by choosing an acid solution according to the doctor’s choice and the condition of the patient’s skin. After the skin is cleansed of its oils, the treatment area is applied. During the procedure, slight burning and stinging may occur for 5-10 minutes. After the procedure, it is possible to return to normal daily life immediately. Several sessions may be required to achieve the desired results.

What are the conditions that can be expected after peeling?

Depending on the depth of the chemical peel, a mild or sunburn-like reaction occurs on the skin. In the superficial type, redness and mild peeling occur for 1-5 days. In deep types, it is normal to see a brown layer as well as edema and skin tension. This layer peels off in 7-10 days.

What should be considered after peeling?

The crusts formed on the skin should never be peeled off. Only moisturizing preparations recommended by the physician should be used. Also, care should be taken to protect from the sun.

In which cases is peeling not applied?

This method is not used if there are open herpes on the surface to be peeled, if there are deep sunburns, open wounds and infections, if peeling has been done in that area before. In addition, chemical peeling is not applied to people who are undergoing or have recently undergone Roaccutane treatment.
