Bipolar disorder (manic depressive illness) in children is often overlooked because it is confused with mischief, hyperactivity and similar illnesses. The treatment of depression in Bipolar Disorder is different, therefore, bipolar depression and major depression should be differentiated.

In the treatment of depression, psychotherapy is applied in addition to drug treatment. Psychotherapy techniques can vary from patient to patient. In addition, if the cause of the depressive patient’s illness is a depression secondary to environmental factors, environmental factors should be tried to be corrected. Depression can also be seen after trauma. If there is accompanying post-traumatic stress disorder (post-traumatic anxiety disorder), it should be evaluated and treated together.

Depression may also be accompanied by diseases such as anxiety disorder, panic attacks, psychosis, and obsessive compulsive disorder. Each disease should be evaluated separately and treated together. According to these diseases, drug treatments and psychotherapies are applied. Child and adolescent psychiatrists or psychiatrists and psychologists should work together in treatment.
