Diagnosis of neck hernia, surgical methods

by clinic

Neck hernia is a disease in which neck and arm pain is common in the ages of 30-40. Most of our patients occur as a result of highly repetitive and compelling movements (such as sleeping on the edge of the sofa, lying on their face, being busy with a job with their neck bent for hours) or in situations such as sudden accidents or blows. Most of the time, our patients start with severe neck pain when they wake up in the morning. Neck hernia occurs in our patients, causing pain in the neck and/or pain descending to the arms by pressing on the neck nerves. Depending on the severity and duration of the spinal cord compression of this hernia, weakness in the arm, weakness in the muscles and numbness in the hands and arms are observed after the pain. In our patients, severe pain occurs with neck movements and limitation of size movement is observed. If a patient has these symptoms, a neck MRI (Cervical MRI) should be taken and diagnosed after a careful examination. In addition, the differential diagnosis of some of the diseases that are confused with neck hernia (such as spinal cord tumor) will be made, thanks to the MRI scans of our patients. Depending on the condition of the hernia after the diagnosis, pain relievers, rest, neck brace, physical therapy and surgery may be recommended to our patients. Patients who are offered surgery should be given extensive information about the surgery. Operation; It is mostly done from the anterior part of the neck of the patients, and in a few of them from the posterior part of the neck. Our patients are operated with a microscope, that is, microsurgery. The hernia is removed by microsurgery and the nerve is relieved. Usually, an ossified metal is placed in that area to ensure ossification again and to prevent narrowing of the spine distance. Patients can be sent home in a healthy way the next day after the operation by lifting the neck collar.
