*What is scoliosis?

Scoliosis (curvature of the spine) of the spine; It means to bend to the right or left side.

In a normal and healthy spine, the vertebrae lie in a straight line when viewed from behind. In scoliosis; (as in the photo above) the vertebrae are displaced to the right and left and can also rotate around their own axis.

The spine may be S-shaped when viewed from behind, or it can be diagnosed when the spine is bent forward without any symptoms, or with the help of x-rays.

Many people today have scoliosis, more or less, on their spine. This is mostly due to the one-sided use of bags and incorrect postures at the computer. If it is more than 10 degrees and if there is, the diagnosis of scoliosis is made after the necessary examinations and treatment may be required immediately.

*What are the Symptoms of Scoliosis?

1) Inequality is seen between the hips and shoulder levels.

2) There may be asymmetry in the rib cage and elevation in one scapula.

3)Feeling that one leg is longer.

4) Deterioration of the distance between the arms and the body and body image.

5) It can be noticed on random x-rays.

6) The trainer or physical education can make a difference. (The sentence cannot be understood)

*What are the Types of Scoliosis?

1) Congenital (congenital): Congenital scoliosis is the lateral curvature of the spine seen in the chest or waist regions, just like scoliosis caused by polio or cerebral palsy. Congenital scoliosis can be seen between the ages of 0-3

2) Polio (polio): Muscle paralysis may occur due to conditions such as cerebral palsy or muscle wasting. This can cause scoliosis to occur out of nowhere.

3) Idiopathic Scoliosis: It is the most common type of scoliosis. It is thought to be hereditary. It mostly occurs during adolescence. It can even be based on psychological problems in girls. At that time, even the effort of girls to hide their breasts can cause scoliosis. The child’s spine should be checked regularly until it grows. It is more noticeable in bending forward and treatment should be started before surgery.

4) Cerebral Palsy: Scoliosis can be seen very often in patients with spastic. In patients who have to sit in a wheelchair all the time, scoliosis can be encountered due to the sitting position.

**SCOLIOSIS TREATMENT METHODS:

As we mentioned at the beginning, great success can be achieved when diagnosed early.

– Those with scoliosis below twenty percent are kept under observation. Exercises are given. Pilates, swimming, etc. are recommended to strengthen the muscles.

– A corset is recommended to prevent progression to scoliosis of thirty percent or more.

-Surgical method may be unavoidable in cases of scoliosis greater than or equal to forty percent.
