“Getting cancer doesn’t always mean death. Many cancers can be cured in their early or middle stages”
The most common cancer types in Turkey; It is lung cancer in men and breast cancer in women. “Due to the fact that Turkey is a country with an increasing smoking habit, some cancers, such as lung cancer, which are decreasing in the world, are increasing in our country. Lung cancer is also on the rise in women. Not all cancer occurrences are related to smoking, but smoking-related cancers are on the rise!
“WE ARE DELAYED IN DIAGNOSIS”
Getting cancer does not always mean death “Many cancers can be cured in their early or middle stages. While one third of the patients in the world are diagnosed at the early stage, one third at the middle stage, and one third at the late stage, we see that the diagnosis in the middle and late stages is a little more intense, especially in the late stage.
We are experiencing a delay in diagnosis. Because the patient is a chronic smoker, he may not care by saying ‘I’m coughing already’. My personal opinion is that there is a delay in our patients going to the doctor!
“FAMILY HISTORY MUST BE CAREFUL”
It is recommended that women should have a mammogram every year after the age of 40, and that a smear should be taken at most every 3 years for cervical cancers.
For men, if he is a heavy smoker, he can have some low-radiation tomographic scans done. After the age of 50, colonoscopy can be performed once every 10 years for colon cancer. Another important point is family history. Having a family history of breast cancer or colon cancer
in the first degree doubles the risk of cancer.
CANCER IS THE DISEASE OF THE FAMILY
Your morale and support is more important than anything else in cancer!!
“It is important to be a good listener, to care about the feelings of the patients and to make them feel that they are with them. Cancer, unfortunately, is the disease of the family. It is not possible for us to remain insensitive to the feelings and pain of our loved ones.
Therefore, the family perceives psychological, financial and physical distress as a whole and together. I would like to point out that in our culture where the concept of family is strong, this is even more important for our country.”
“TYPES OF SEENING GEOGRAPHICALLY DIFFERENT”
There has been a significant increase in the number of cancer diseases in the last 50 years!
“Chronic diseases increase as life gets longer. We live longer, but are we living with quality? One of the factors that impair quality is cancer. The geographical manifestations of cancer are also different. For example; Colon cancer ranks first among digestive system cancers in Europe and America. But the situation is different in Turkey. We see that stomach cancer, esophageal cancer and colon cancer are far ahead of them.
