If we really want to know the facts behind this genetic thyroid disease, which is the most common in Turkey, we must read this article.

Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is an autoimmune, i.e. a chronic (chronic) familial thyroid inflammation that develops with the body’s self-attack. Since the body does this on its own, there are no microbes around. It is a disease of unknown cause such as inflammatory joint rheumatism (such as Rheumatoid Arthritis Lupus, etc.), Myastania gravis, Vitiligo and Multiple Sclerosis, which we call the group of autoimmune diseases whose cause is unknown, and the incidence of comorbidity with these types of diseases has increased.

As is known, Turkey is an endemic country in terms of thyroid diseases. One of 3-4 people has thyroid disease. It was one of those 2-3 before our salts were iodized and was also associated with childhood intelligence development. Because the land on which Turkey is located is poor in terms of iodine, which causes the thyroid gland to enlarge.

However, Hashimoto’s disease is not related to it and is still the most common cause of chronic thyroiditis in Turkey. It does not develop with iodine deficiency, it develops with genetic transition. Environmental factors also contribute to its formation.

HOW THE DISEASE STARTS;

If we clinicians are experienced, we can recognize a hashimato patient right away when he starts to tell his story. We also want tests for evidence-based medicine, and initial testing is important for monitoring response to treatment.

Our patient is unhappy, his palpitations occur from time to time, there are occasional excitement attacks that can sometimes turn into panic attacks, and attacks of anger and/or sadness that he cannot fully understand. It can cause stress to such an extent that it affects our relationships with our loved ones, and most importantly, it can reduce our own quality of life. Occasionally, hair loss suddenly increases. The skin may become dull and dull. Edema, constipation may develop. There may be nail changes. May experience memory and concentration problems. Especially stomach-based digestive problems may be experienced. If he smokes, he will experience these problems much more severely or he will feel worse in smoking environments. Sometimes there may be a feeling of choking, contraction, tension, and hoarseness in the throat. We may find the diagnosis quite delayed while the patient is taking heavy drugs, sometimes due to rhythm disturbances in cardiology, and sometimes panic attacks and anxiety disorders in psychiatry.

HOWEVER, there is only one reason for them and that is HASHIMATO THYROIDIT!!!!!! And we can deal with them. We can defeat these findings that turn our lives upside down. Now we know why.

It can make us gain weight, but it can also do this when our thyroid functions are normal; There are several reasons for this that need further investigation.

HOW DO WE KNOW?:

When you come to us with these problems, we make our diagnosis and prove it with the laboratory. The weapons developed by our white blood cells against the thyroid gland, which we call Anti TPO, Anti TG, confirm the diagnosis. We’ll look at thyroid function tests and thyroid ultrasonography to see how far these guns have attacked. Nodule or false nodule may be developed. We’ll follow up. If the nodule is real, we follow up as I will explain in my next article. We definitely do not recommend immediate surgery!!!!!!!!!.

It is known that after the operation, these autoantibodies, that is, the weapons made by the white blood cells, can remain in the blood for a lifetime. Surgery is definitely not recommended to get rid of the disease…..

In addition, vitamin and mineral deficiencies that may develop are very important and these constitute the main problems that impair the patient’s real quality of life. These should be given great importance.

WHAT TO DO IN TREATMENT? WHAT ROLE OF VITAMINS???

Hashimoto is actually a very simple disease.

B12, folate, vitamin d, zinc deficiency replacements, immunotherapeutic and iodine-reduced diet (except during pregnancy and lactation), vitiligo myastania gravis, type 1 diabetes or, more frequently, insulin resistance research should be done for the future. It increases the patient’s quality of life and protects against risks such as Alzheimer’s, coronary artery disease, cancer and diabetes.

This year and last year, the scientific world has achieved very important new developments regarding this disease. Last year, it was proven that 200 mg/day of selenium trace element for at least 6 months can be effective in reducing autoantibodies and moderate disease course. Contrary to what is known, in the world’s first prospective, prospective patient studies with large series by Turkish thyroidologists, it was proven that true nodules developing in hashimatous do not have a higher risk of cancer, and all European and American thyroid associations objected to this because it has always been claimed otherwise, but is less scientific. They presented these crimes based on retrospective surgical studies with After us, the European and American Thyroid associations had to take a step back when the Japanese supported us with a large series of prospective studies, that is, more scientific, like us. We are also proud of our scientists.

We now know that solitary true nodules that develop on the basis of hashimato do not worsen more often than nodules that develop on the basis of endemic goiter. The risk is lower or the same.

We can take a deep ohhhh.

It is important to follow up our thyroid function tests, usually every 3 months, because it likes to fluctuate hormonally. If it does not fluctuate, you can follow up less frequently, upon your doctor’s determination. If thyroid gland laziness has obviously developed, you will also be given thyroid hormone. Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, do not cut the amount of thyroid hormone medication given to yourself, as a result can be fatal. The point to be considered here is that as insulin resistance rises, we gain weight and this contributes to the laziness of our thyroid gland. Our sweet cravings increase. Our payments increase. Our thyroid medication dose does not need to be increased right away, even a good nutrition program, avoiding white flour products and sugar, and increasing exercise will bring our thyroid gland to itself. Thyroid hormone is one of the two most important vital hormones known. Sometimes, vitamin supplements can make the gland work again. For example, even correcting vitamin D deficiency immediately corrects our thyroid gland laziness and reactive hypoglycemia, can destroy our sweating, and contributes to the process of our skin diseases such as psoriasis and vitiligo. It accelerates our weight loss. It strengthens our immunity against catching diseases. Of course, this is an intervention that our doctor should definitely do. Arrhythmias also require intervention.

Stomach problems are very common in Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, it has been well defined that B12 and folic acid absorption difficulties develop due to this, and a group of related psychosomatic problems such as anxiety and some neurological problems and tendency to depression and similar psychosomatic problems develop.

Therefore, Hashimoto’s patient should be questioned in terms of gastrointestinal diseases and he should be screened for Helicobacter Pylori and parasitological diseases, which are a big problem in our society. Ruling out these microbial diseases before giving vitamin treatments ensures the permanence of the treatment.

Immunotherapeutically, antioxidant supplements Coenzyme Q10, high-dose vitamin C should be combined with selenium in selected cases to control disease symptoms, ensure fertility, and reduce antiTPO and antiTG levels.

HOW TO PROTECT???

As it is known, the disease is a chronic (chronic) genetic (familial) inherited disease. In other words, it is permanent for life, but is it possible to be protected? Or can it be stopped after it starts? Can it be moderated? Yes of course. We know that this disease is familial, and if we have it in our family, we should have our own screening. If our clinician sees a risk in us, we can start preventive vitamin supplements, we can be screened for accompanying diseases and we can be taken under protection. Protective nutrition program etc. can be applied. Our doctor decides which method is suitable for us. In the same way, if the disease has started and at what stage our doctor provides us with supportive treatments and protects us against the risks that may accompany, our quality of life will improve to an incredible level. The disease is 4 times more common in women. Female/male = 4/1 The frequency of first attack after giving birth has increased in females. Therefore, 3-4 days postpartum. Risky women should be screened and taken under protection.
