Healthcare for 615 Thousand Vulnerable People

The World Doctors Association provided health services to 615,000 people affected by the humanitarian crisis and conflicts in Syria. Hakan Bilgin, President of the World Doctors Association, said, “With the support we receive from our donors, we provide health services to vulnerable people, and aim to provide effective treatment for refugees, asylum seekers and those who do not have protection in their country.”

The World Doctors Association (DDD) has delivered health services to a total of 615 thousand needy and vulnerable people since 2017. DDD, which accelerated its activities in the region after the Olive Branch Operation, which was organized after the humanitarian crisis in Syria, provided health services to a total of 615 thousand Syrian people, 145 thousand of which were in the country and 470,000 in Syria.

Saying that they are working to improve humane living conditions, World Doctors Association President Hakan Bilgin said, “We have provided primary health care services to a total of 460,000 refugees, 60 thousand of whom are in Idlib and 400 thousand in Afrin. In addition, we provided services in the fields of mental health and psychosocial support to a total of 10 thousand refugees, 6 thousand of whom are in Idlib and 4 thousand in Afrin, in Syria.

Trainings for Covid-19 testing in Syria

Stating that with the permission of the TR Hatay Governorship, the Hatay Provincial Health Directorate gave the necessary training to the staff working in Syria in the use of PCR tests and in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, Bilgin said, “Refugees and asylum seekers, who are among the most vulnerable parts of society, are very vulnerable to the pandemic. . As Doctors of the World, we continue our efforts to develop special measures so that these people can access Covid-19 vaccines and treatments.

Stating that the homeless, immigrants, refugees, especially those living in camps and displaced populations and those who have difficulty in accessing primary health care services, access to Covid-19 diagnosis and treatment services and vaccines should be facilitated, Bilgin said, “These people with very limited protection opportunities are the most vulnerable to the spread of the pandemic. are among the major risk groups. Thanks to the training of our nurses and doctors working in Syria on Covid-19, the process of sending samples to the laboratory has been facilitated and accelerated. Again, with the trainings given in the region, the information studies to prevent and reduce the transmission continue.

No need to come to Turkey

Drawing attention to the fact that Syrians can receive health services in their own lands with international donations and official national supports, Bilgin said, “In this way, we contribute to the reduction of the density of hospitals in Turkey, especially in our border provinces. As a result of our activities, Syrian communities who are victims of war can receive health services in their own lands without having to enter Turkey.”

World Doctors Association, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, helps refugees and asylum seekers in Turkey and Syria. In addition to the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Centers in Istanbul, Izmir and Hatay, the association also established the Idlib Tension Relief Center, which was established after the Olive Branch Operation in order to establish, monitor and maintain the ceasefire in the region, to deliver humanitarian aid to those in need, and to create suitable conditions for the displaced population to return to their homes. It carries out primary health care and psychosocial support services in its region.
