How is colon cancer diagnosed?

by clinic

Colon cancer diagnosis is made by pathological examination of biopsy taken from suspicious tissue detected in colonoscopy.

In some cases (albeit rare), biopsy material may not contain enough cells for tumor diagnosis, or biopsies may correspond to parts of the mass that do not contain tumor tissue. In such cases, the biopsy procedure should be repeated with colonoscopy if necessary.

If the mass is large and has signs of intestinal obstruction or causes severe bleeding, surgery may be considered without taking a biopsy, in line with the recommendations of the responsible physician.
