The effect of the eye drops is 5-6 minutes, then the one-to-one complaints start again. The quality of tears is very valuable in dry eye. Quality tears are admired, plaster the cornea, nourish the eye.
Move away from the notion that there are few tears. When listening to the patient’s complaints, the ophthalmologist said, “You have dry eyes.” The patient says, “My eyes are watering a lot”. It’s true, it’s watering, but it doesn’t help, it just disappears. It is true, when the tears are low, the brain commands the lacrimal gland to work harder. Tests are being made, tears are like a river…
Tears are as valuable as their size, their quality, their time to stay, their density, eye nourishment, and the oxygen in them. The tears should not flow, should not leave the eye.
What ensures the quality of tears?
Stability: Mucous, aqueous (water) and (lipid) oil. If the stability in the middle of these is disturbed, dry eyes will occur
Aqueous: The size of the aqueous (water) part is valuable. The reasons that reduce the aqueous (water) measure should be examined. Diseases that reduce tear production, drugs, vitamins, omega3… It should be considered.
Mucin: Mucin that moistens the surface is valuable. Conditions that reduce mucin production and disrupt its structure should be reviewed. If mucin is insufficient, the corneal epithelium of the front lens of the eye is damaged, stinging begins
Lipid: The oil that keeps the tears popular and smears the eye is valuable. MGD is a dysfunction of the Meibomius gland, which produces the oil portion of the tear.
It is valuable for these three to work with stability and to maintain stability. If the aqueous decreases, the mucin and oil combine to form a burr.
Osmolarity: (Density) The osmolarity of the tear, that is, its weight, is also valuable.
Breaking time: Breaking time, the time of breaking down the flouresein dripped into the eye when you blink is also valuable. The shortening of this period means dry eyes.
Nutrition and social life: Vitamins, omega3, electrolytes and nutrition in tears, water intake, kidney water excretion affect the quality of tears. Alcohol; Excess cigarettes and coffee impair the quality of tears.
Removal of toxic elements and residues increases the purity and quality of tears.
Patients with dry eyes, systemic drug intake also affects tear quality.
How will we improve quality?
This is a treatment job, your ophthalmologist will do it. Do not think that this will happen by dripping dry eye drops. It requires a series of examination and practice.
