It is not possible to live a stress-free life in today’s world. It is the existence of things in our lives that will cause constant stress. Sometimes it is very difficult to control the events that happen to us without our control. Stress is a phenomenon that will continue with us as long as we exist.
No matter how much we talk about stress, it’s often not clear what stress really is. Many people experience stress because of an event, injury, life difficulties, separation, divorce, job loss, etc. as they can receive.
We can think of stress as a reactive image in our body, mind and behavior. Events such as heart palpitations, anxieties and worries, nail biting, and aggression are time-related, reactive responses we give. All these are important factors. But thoughts about our own situations are critical factors.
When something happens to us, it is our mental mechanisms that will decide whether the automatically occurring events threaten us, how we should deal with the situation, and what skills we will have.
We cannot say that the phenomenon of stress is always caused by negative events that happen to us. Not all situations labeled as “stressful” are negative. The birth of a child, promotion at work, or moving to a new home may not be perceived as threatening. However, we may feel “stressed” because of these situations because we do not feel fully prepared.
For most people, they view stress as a negative concept. However, stress can encourage us to do our best. For example, athletes often break world records under the stress and pressure of the Olympics. A moderate amount of stress helps motivate us to write a term paper or prepare for an exam, and in this case, stress is positive and necessary. Therefore, a certain amount of stress is desirable, but too much is harmful.
Today’s demands and pressures ensure that all people experience stress. Stress is a byproduct of life. The encouraging part of this picture is that we can learn how to control or manage “excessive” stress. In fact, belief in our ability to cope with stress often serves to lower stress levels.
How can we deal with stress in a healthy way?
Stress serves an important purpose; It enables us to respond quickly to threats and avoid dangers. However, prolonged exposure to stress can lead to mental health problems (for example, anxiety and depression) or increased physical health problems. Numerous studies suggest that increased stress levels affect the ability to cope with physical illness.
While we cannot avoid all stress, the ability to work to cope with it in healthy ways that increase healing potential has gained importance. In order to keep our health at an optimal level, we need to eat and drink, physical activities, etc. that take away from stress. It will make people feel good.
It is an important requirement to adopt a healthy lifestyle and increase resistance to stress by strengthening physical health. Regular exercise plays an important role in preventing physical activity, reducing the effects of stress.
