Migraine is 3 times more common in women than men; (18% for women and 6% for men) Migraine headaches are usually severe. Migraine pain varies from person to person, and even in the same person, it can occur in different ways. During pain, moving the head, exposure to light or loud noise increase the pain in many patients. Nausea and sometimes even vomiting may occur during the pain. The pain is mostly throbbing, and in most patients it is unilateral. The pain lasts from 2-3 hours to 3 days.
Initially, it can be difficult to tell whether a headache is a migraine or an “ordinary” headache. Features that can distinguish migraine attacks from other headaches are as follows:
Moderate or severe pain
Accompanied by nausea
Accompanied by vomiting
Sensitivity to light and sound
Throbbing, Pulsating pain
· Mainly unilateral pain
· Pain that increases with movement
Some people have an aura period that can last 10-30 minutes before migraine pain. The aura may include visual changes such as flashes of bright light, flickering, colored zigzag lines, blind spots, or loss of vision on one side. The aura may also include tingling or numbness in the arms or legs, or dizziness.
Migraine can be triggered by many different and varied triggers. The most common trigger in women is menstruation, and the pain usually comes a few days before the menstrual period. Apart from this, there are changes in the weather (wind, southwest..), hunger, too much sleep or less sleep, sun, stress, excitement and sometimes even sudden joy, fatigue (especially very strenuous sports), fermented drinks (especially red wine and beer) and foods. It can also be a trigger. In addition, birth control pills, concentration-enhancing drugs used against attention deficit, drugs used to stay awake can also trigger migraine.
Things to do without medication for migraine pain may include placing a bag of ice on the head (or holding the head under cold water), applying heat to the neck or neck massage, trying to sleep in a dark and quiet environment and sleeping. Medicines to be used to relieve pain are basically two groups, painkillers or Migraine Attack Medicines that only stop migraine pain.
In the treatment of migraine, other treatments other than or in addition to drugs can be applied. Botox treatment, Acupuncture, Greater Occipital Nerve Block ..etc.
Migraine pain can interfere with the normal activities of the person and impair the quality of life of both the person with migraine and their relatives. In many people, the pain and other symptoms are so severe that they just want to lie down and sleep in a dark room. This disrupts daily life.
TREATMENT OF MIGRAINE WITH INJECTION METHODS
The frequency of attacks and the severity of pain in migraine patients can be reduced and controlled with PROLOTHERAPY treatment. Chronic damaged connective tissue elements, especially in the head and neck region, can be permanently treated with proliferating substance injections to be made at regular intervals. With the treatment of degeneration in the musculoskeletal system and joints, as the sessions progress, it will be seen that the frequency of attacks and pain intensity of the migraine sufferer gradually decreases and the pain disappears completely when the target number of sessions is reached.
Migraine is basically a neuropathy. Migraine is a pain of nerve origin. Migraine pain is felt intensely in the neck, around the eyes and temples. The reason is the entrapment of the nerve fibers here. The entrapped nerve fibers swell and when the pressure exceeds a threshold value (30 mmHg), conduction in the nerve fiber ceases. This fiber is now able to spontaneously generate pain signals.
Clarifying the mechanism of migraine also gives clues for the treatment of this pain: PIT method is a simple, reliable and effective treatment method. As with all neuropathic pains, it is effective in controlling migraine pain. With the PIT method, the swelling in the nerve fibers is reversed by superficial injections to the areas of free nerve endings and trapped nerve fibers. The nerve fiber regains function and the pain signals disappear automatically. When applied in sessions of 7-15 days, it reduces both the frequency and severity of migraine pain, thereby increasing the quality of life. Its effect begins to be seen from the first session. It reduces labor loss. Limits the use of painkillers.
PIT method Except for migraine; It is used in the treatment of Restless Legs Syndrome, Morton’s Neuroma, De Quervain’s Syndrome, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Postherpetic Neuralgia, Shingles, Facial Paralysis, Fibromyalgia, Non-healing pain at the surgical site and Diabetic neuropathic pain.
