Treatment with ozone!!
Herniated disc is one of the main culprits of PAIN radiating to the waist and legs. As a mechanism, there is either mechanical pressure on the nerves or the event that we call inflammation, which is caused by the effect of some biochemical substances secreted from the jelly-like structure inside the disc, which we call the nucleus pulposus, is the main source of PAIN. In summary:
1-Mechanical Compression
2-Inflammation
The approach to this basic problem covers a process ranging from taking simple pain relievers and muscle relaxants to open surgical operations. The new technology, technique and differences in approach to the event have now narrowed the place of open surgery in lumbar and neck hernias and have set some red flags before us. In other words, if these red flags are in question and other methods have not yielded results, surgery (open surgery) is recommended as a last resort. What are these red flags?
a) urinary and bowel incontinence
b) progressive loss of strength as well as thinning of arm and leg muscles
c) pain that does not go away despite all kinds of treatment. If this severe picture has occurred, surgical intervention is the solution for you.
The success rate in lumbar disc surgery is between 49% and 95%, and the probability of re-operation after lumbar disc surgery is between 4% and 15%. The reasons behind this low success rate are: 1) dural fibrosis, 2) arachnoidal adhesions, 3) muscle and facial fibrosis, 4) mechanical instability and facet & sacro-iliac joint function resulting from partial removal of bone and ligamentous structures required for surgery Reduction of the pressure, which may lead to diarrhoea, 5) radiculopathy, 6) recurrent disc herniation. Therefore, there is increasing interest in the search for safer alternative methods for nerve root decompression that provide structural stability.
Current Practices
Let’s move on to current understanding and practices. We said that the source of PAIN is either mechanical pressure on the nerve or inflammation. Today, many new methods are applied under the title of minimally invasive interventions. Nucleoplasty, nucleotomy, LASER, IDET are the ones that come to mind right away. These techniques are mostly attempts to reduce mechanical pressure and save you from your hernia problem between 70-90%.
Injection therapy, which we call cortisone, is a method that eliminates inflammation, which is one of the main causes, that is, pain caused by circulatory disorder caused by some chemical substances in the nerve tissue. The chance of success is 75-85%.
Let’s talk about OZONE treatment
Where can you say ozone came from? Because, not a day goes by that ozone weakens and beautifies like this, kills cancer cells on television. Yes, it can do that too. But we use OZONE mainly for pain treatment.
We know Oxygen as 02, whereas OZONE is O3. In other words, it is a gas obtained from 99% oxygen and is active oxygen used in the treatment of many diseases.
It is an important treatment tool that enables us to obtain the high-tech application results mentioned above, both to reduce mechanical pressure and to correct inflammation in waist-neck hernias. Today, especially in Italy, Spain, France, Germany, India, China and Japan, it is widely used in the treatment of lumbar hernia, it has almost no side effects, does not require anesthesia, and is a non-surgical solution tool. It has a success rate of 65-90%. We get the same results in our applications.
How does ozone affect herniated disc?
It creates its effects by affecting both mechanisms that cause pain that we wrote above. If we explain the event a little more; If the formations that we call the disc, which acts as a shock absorber between our vertebrae, are damaged for any reason, what we call hernia occurs. This part of the disc, which has the consistency of jelly, overflows the nerve tissue and puts pressure on it. In this overflow event, the deteriorated disc swells and retains water. Pain radiating to the waist or both the waist and legs occurs. When OZONE is introduced into the disc, these structures, which we call proteoglycans, break down and become unable to hold water. prevents the formation of free oxygen radicals. The disc shrinks mechanically and mummifies, meaning it can no longer swell and cause pain. The shrinkage of the disc causes the nerves to get rid of the pressure and the nerves to be released, this is the first healing mechanism.
Second: By eliminating inflammation; Ozone has very strong anti-inflammatory effects. In this context, the increase in cytokines, suppression of prostaglandins, leading to the release of endogenous morphine and the flow of active oxygen to the region with blood vessels (increase of 2,3 diphosphoglycerate in blood cells) increases tissue oxygen. All these lead to nerve root release, reduction of inflammation in nerve roots and healing of diseased tissue. The lumbar muscles, which are in a tight position and cause PAIN, relax, the patient’s quality of life increases, and he gets rid of pain.
As a result, herniated disc heals, the pain disappears, and the patient returns to his daily life.
How is OZONE given in herniated disc?
There are two methods.
1- In the operating room conditions and accompanied by imaging devices, it is given into the disc causing the hernia itself. It is applied once. Narcosis does not require a scalpel. It is a reproducible method with almost no side effects. You do not need to stay in the hospital. The procedure takes around 15 minutes. This method is also called “ozone discectomy” as it is as effective as surgery in research. We call it ozone nucleolysis.
2- The second method is to inject 10 cc of ozone with a very thin dental needle to the two sides of the waist, 3 to the right, 3 to the left, 5 cm deep, around the vertebrae causing herniated disc in the normal outpatient clinic. Ozone gas is absorbed and exerts its effects by penetrating deep, around the disc and around the swollen nerve. It should be applied every day and the patient gets rid of his problems with a total of 12-14 applications. This method is called DISKOSAN.
That’s it.
Hernia-free, pain-free, healthy and quality life is yours.
