The circumcision time of boys is one of the most important issues for families. Circumcision is not recommended between the ages of 2-6 on the grounds that it will cause psychological problems in the future. Circumcision, which is considered as the first step towards manhood, is “Can it happen at such a young age?” Contrary to the approach, when it is done as soon as it is born, many traumas that can be experienced are prevented.
Neonatal circumcision is considered the most ideal period for circumcision due to the convenience of the surgical procedure, protection of children from urinary tract infections, rapid wound healing and ease of care after circumcision.
Advantages of neonatal circumcision;
· Does not require general anesthesia,
· Wound healing is rapid,
· Risk of bleeding and swelling is reduced,
· Baby is easier to care for ,
· Newborn baby can calm down easily while taking breast milk,
· There is little or no need for painkillers after the procedure.
The child should not have a known ailment
The most important condition for newborn circumcision is that the child has no additional problems and the genitals are suitable for this procedure. In other words, if the patient has no known additional disease, if both ovaries are in place and the genital structure is suitable, newborn circumcision can be performed.
Newborn circumcision can be performed after the first 24 hours
Although there are various methods for newborn circumcision, classical circumcision is preferred because it minimizes the complication rate. The period after the first 24 hours is the preferred time for newborn circumcision. Thus, the patient is discharged as circumcised after delivery. The most important advantage of this is that the procedure is performed without the child’s awareness of his environment yet. In the future, despite local anesthesia during circumcision, it can be seen that the baby is restless in response to holding his feet. For this reason, it is beneficial not to exceed 15 days from birth for the circumcision procedure.
An extremely comfortable and reliable method
After the decision to perform newborn circumcision, a cream with local anesthetic effect is applied around the area 1 hour before the operation. The classical stitched method is used in newborn circumcision. After the procedure, the wound site heals in a short time.
