Non-surgical treatment of meniscus tears, prolotherapy

by clinic

Menisci act as a cushion in the knee joint, help the integrity of the knee joint and provide assurance in rotations. Menisci are usually torn as a result of side blows to the knee. When the knee is bent, the meniscus can be torn as a result of excessive inward rotation of the thigh and excessive stretching of the knee.

Major causes of ruptures:

  • due to accidents and impacts
  • due to joint diseases that cause damage
  • due to joint ligament damage
  • Spontaneous tearing due to congenital deformities

Major tear types:

  • longitudinal (longitudinal) tears
  • transverse and oblique (horizontal and curved) tears
  • tears with meniscus cyst

Diagnosis
The diagnosis can be confirmed by examination, x-ray, computed tomography or MRI.

Major Symptoms

  • Lock-up: The knee remains bent 20-25 degrees and the knee does not stretch. This situation will pass with a few days of rest. However, it should be differentiated from other conditions (such as pain, mass) that may cause deadlock.
  • Discharge: It should be separated from other situations that may cause discharge in the knees.
  • Swelling (fluid accumulation): As it can be seen in the meniscus caused by impact – accident, meniscus tear may also cause fluid accumulation.,

TREATMENT IN MENISCUS LESIONS:

First of all, the extremity is relieved of the load and taken to rest. During this period, immobilization or rest of the knee joint is aimed primarily at regression of traumatic findings in the knee.

The patients who come to us are mostly patients with 1st or 2nd degree meniscal tears that develop after sports injury. Patients with chondromalastic patella and partial tears of the anterior cruciate ligament are our other patient groups presenting with knee pain.

We take these patients to prolotherapy sessions after physical examination and MRI examination. We see that the tears are regenerated (renewed) in the MRIs taken after the pain relief of our patients first.

We also treat anterior cruciate ligament tears and chondromalacia with prolotherapy
