Support from TÜSEB to EU’s R&D project
Ege University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology, faculty member Assoc. Dr. Özlem Barut Selver and her team’s project to investigate the effects of amniotic membrane extract on the surface stem cells of the eye was entitled to be supported within the scope of the Research and Development Projects Support Program of the Turkish Institutes of Health (TÜSEB).
Assoc. Dr. Within the scope of the project, Selver and his team will use the extraction of the amniotic membrane, which is used in the treatment of eye diseases, to develop stem cell therapy. Welcoming the project team in his office, Ege University Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Budak congratulated the project team for their quality work and wished them success in their work.
Providing information about his projects, Assoc. Dr. Barut Selver said, “The majority of the laboratory work of all our research is carried out by Dr. We carry out this work within the body of the ‘Limbustem’ company that we established with Mehmet Gürdal and the ‘Ocular Surface Research Laboratory’ that we opened with the support of Ege University. As of the beginning of 2023, we have added a new research project to our previous research projects with a budget of over 3 million TL. We have been working on the reproduction of the surface stem cells of the eye in the laboratory environment and their clinical application for more than ten years. Now, our university Faculty of Pharmacy Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. With our team, including Mesut Arıcı, we will use amniotic membrane extraction to develop eye surface stem cell therapy.”
Assoc. Dr. Selver said, “We will continue to work with industry partners on the productization of amniotic membrane extract. Our goal with this project is to make advanced medical treatment products available for resistant eye surface diseases by using our country’s own resources and to accelerate the R&D studies on the subject.”
