It turned out to be Neyzen Mehmet Ferit Aktakka, the composer of the Samsak Döveci folk song, which has become popular all over Turkey.
The music of Samsak Döveci, sung by musicians Elif Buse Doğan and Serkan Davet, is popular in the social media. Samsak Döveci, who circulated from language to language with the trend launched on the social media platform TikTok, received more than 1 million views, especially on YouTube. Mehmet Ferit Aktakka, the composer of Samsak Döveci, a folk song about the Tavşanlı district of Kütahya, gave an interview with his grandson, who bears the same name and becomes a musician like him again.
– Do you know that Turkish is related to your grandfather by the words of your relatives, your grandfather’s relatives?
– I would like to tell the true story of Turk’s exit here from the very beginning and put an end to the disinformation on this issue.
“In 1967-1968, Assistant Prof. Dr. Rahmi Oruç Güvenç listened and recorded the folk song from my grandfather Mehmet Ferit Aktakka. Let me quote the following with the expression of my dear Kanikey Güvenç: “My dear father Rahmi Oruç Güvenç and My dear uncle Yaşar Güvenç always read Samsak Döveci in TÜMATA (Promoting and Researching Turkish Music) concerts, and during his domestic and international travels, and they made the listeners love him. Whenever they sang it, they remembered the composer of the piece, Neyzen Ferit Dede, with love and respect.” Oruç Güvenç performed this song together with local musicians (İbrahim Şirinoğlu, Ekrem Şakrak, Orhan Kasap) at the Tavşanlı Musical Society during their visit to his hometown, Tavşanlı. Our expensive sound artist İbrahim Şirinoğlu also says, “I personally heard from my brother Oruç, that the work is your grandfather Ferit.” In 2007, Director Ahmet Uluçay from Tavşanlı begins the script work of his new movie, which he will shoot in the format of Making Ships from Watermelon Shells: Sea Shell in the Steppe. She asks our THM Artist Emel Orhan, whom she intends to play, to reach Orhan Kasap and compile the folk song she wants to use in her cinema. With the death of Ahmet Uluçay in 2009, this project would not be realized.”
– Was the work copyrighted in the past? Is it anonymous? What needs to be done to clearly prove that the work is about your grandfather? Will you work for it?
– The work has no copyright, it is passed anonymously and anyone who wishes can perform it. Now I am sure that Samsak Döveci is related to my grandfather. However, we will not try to record the work on my grandfather and put copyright on this work. I also discussed this issue with my mother and my siblings, we all agree; unethical… For us, even mentioning my grandfather’s name as a ‘source person’ is sufficient.
