Circumcision is a simple and reliable procedure if done with the right technique. While the complication rate in circumcisions performed by circumcisers is 93%, this rate is 3% in circumcisions performed by physicians.
Circumcision performed within 24-48 hours following the birth of the baby is called neonatal circumcision and can be performed without any stitches in our hospital if desired. It is possible to perform the procedure without the child being aware of his/her surroundings. In the future, despite local anesthesia, it can be seen that the baby is restless in response to holding his feet. For this reason, it is beneficial not to exceed 15 days from birth for the circumcision procedure.
What are the advantages of neonatal circumcision?
Neonatal circumcision does not require anesthesia.
The circumcision technique applied in newborns is a seamless method. Wound healing in infants is quite rapid. When the circumcision is seamless and the wound healing is fast, much more beautiful aesthetic results emerge.
The risk of bleeding after circumcision is very low. Since the vascular structure of the foreskin is newly developing, bleeding control during the circumcision procedure is easy and the risk of bleeding after the procedure is very low.
Even a special dressing is not required after neonatal circumcision. Healing takes place without the belly falling.
Urinary tract infections are very rare in children who have undergone newborn circumcision.
Two days after the circumcision, the baby can begin to bathe normally.
Neonatal circumcision does not cause trauma to the baby, and it is not possible to remember it. He can calm down just by sucking on his mother.
As the child grows, the need for general anesthesia, the change in the type of surgery, and the prolongation of the healing process may aggravate the trauma.
In which cases is Newborn Circumcision Not Applied?
• If the baby is premature or sick, if there is a family history of hemophilia, if there is a congenital penile anomaly such as hypospadias, newborn circumcision cannot be performed.
