Six people injured in a pressure cooker explosion in the last 10 days applied to the burn center, which was put into service on 22 March at Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital.
Pressure cookers, which are frequently preferred when preparing food in kitchens, are also called “time bomb in the kitchen”, although they save time. If the pressure inside the pressure cooker, which provides the opportunity to cook quickly and practically, is not discharged properly, it explodes, causing situations that may threaten life.

Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital’s burn center 6 people applied to the burn center in the last 10 days due to severe burns caused by the pressure cooker explosion. 45-year-old Nazife Çakır, who was treated for a pressure cooker explosion for 5 days, suffered burns on her upper body, arms and throat.
“SHOULD EXPLODE”
“I put the pot in front of the window to get some air out and cool down quicker.” Çakır said:
“Then I opened the button on the top. A little time passed, there was no air coming out of the hole. This time, I thought I would open the lid. Thank God I was opening it in front of the window. If I opened it inside, it would probably be worse because half of the food spilled on the floor. . The pan suddenly exploded. At that moment, I felt like it came all over me. I rushed to the top of my head with water.
“Pressure Cookers CAN TURN INTO A CLOCK BOMB”
Burn Center Physician and General Surgery Specialist Prof. Dr. Mustafa Turan gave the following words about the events:
“There have been 6 incidents in the last 10 days. It is necessary to be very careful about the use of fryers and pressure cookers. With the slightest mistake, they can turn into a time bomb in the dwelling. We also ask the patients. We are trying to get clues. Especially in pressure cookers, there is a level. It must not be exceeded. In the mechanisms that reduce the pressure there, the part we call the whistle must be put inside in a way that will not block it so that the part we call the whistle does not clog. The most valuable thing is the cooling step. The traumas we see the most are from this. The patient says, ‘I must have opened it early.’
