It is a common problem in childhood. It can be seen rarely in advanced ages. The problem can be seen together during the day and night. However, most of them are in the form of bed wetting at night.
The child is expected to complete toilet training between the ages of 2 and 4 during his/her development. During this process, families should not act hastily and oppressively and should adapt to the child’s unique development process.
From the beginning of toilet training, if undercontinence continues despite reaching the age of five, primary enuresis is referred to as primary enuresis, if at least 1 year after toilet training, secondary enuresis is mentioned. In addition, for 6 months, at least 2 times a month for 6 months. times must be under smuggling.
In a very small percentage of these cases, an organic cause can be detected. In the vast majority of them, there is no organic cause.
Causes of the disease include the following;
Familial genetic predisposition
Deep sleeping feature
Introverted, sensitive personality structure
Authoritarian, oppressive family structure
Psychological problems (such as divorce of parents, birth of a new sibling)
• Low bladder (urinary bladder) capacity
If a child who has a bedwetting problem gets up wet in the morning, it creates a serious distress and a sense of helplessness. is added, the severity of the illness in the child increases. This affects the course of the disease negatively and the event enters a vicious circle. Therefore, the family should be informed about the wrong and correct behaviors during the treatment. Also, at the beginning of the treatment, a good communication should be established with the child and his/her trust should be gained. It should be explained that it can be seen in the child, that there is treatment and that he can recover.
While administering treatment, the child and family are advised to do the following:
•There should be no salty foods, fried foods that will increase the desire to drink water at dinner
•After dinner, water and watery foods should be limited
•You should go to the toilet before going to bed, get up 1 hour after going to bed and go to the toilet again
• It should be recommended to hold and do a little while urinating, in order to strengthen the sphincter muscles
• The course of the disease should be observed by keeping a chart and asking him to mark the days when he gets up wet and dry.
If the child urinates as often as 7-8 times and urinates less than 20-30cc, the bladder capacity may be low. To increase the capacity, a few glasses of water are drunk and taught to hold the urine as long as possible and then do it.
Acupuncture treatment
Acupuncture, besides its sedating, relaxing effect, also provides the solution of the problem by stimulating the muscles in the excretory system to work stronger.
An average of 15 sessions is required. Laser acupuncture can be applied to children who are afraid of needles.
After the treatment starts, incontinence may be stopped suddenly or it may become less frequent and then cease. The family must act patiently and understandingly during this process.
