TYPE 2 DIABETES RISK GROUPS
A- People who are obese or overweight (BMI ≥25 kg/m2) and especially those with central obesity (waist circumference ≥88 cm in women, ≥102 cm in men) Diabetes screening should be done every 3 years, preferably with fasting blood sugar, starting from the age of 40.
B- In addition, people with BMI ≥25 kg/m2 should be investigated more frequently, starting from a younger age, if they belong to one of the following risk groups.
1. Persons with a first-degree relative with diabetes
2. Persons from ethnic groups with a high prevalence of diabetes
3. Women who gave birth to a large baby or were previously diagnosed with gestational diabetes
4. Hypertensive individuals (blood pressure: BP≥140/90 mmHg)
5. Cholesterol disorder (HDL-cholesterol ≤35 mg/dl or triglyceride ≥250 mg/dl)
6. Patients with high fasting or postprandial sugar
7. Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
8. Patients with clinical disease or signs of insulin resistance (acanthosis nigricans) persons
9. Those with diseases in the cardiovascular, cerebral vessels and great vessels.
10. People born with low birth weight
11. People who lead a sedentary life or have low physical activity
12. Those who have a diet rich in saturated fats and low in fiber
13. Patients with schizophrenia and people using atypical antipsychotic drugs
14. Patients with solid organ (especially renal) transplantation
In children and adolescents with a high risk of type 2 diabetes, from 10 years of age 2 Diabetes screening should be done annually.
